The “Hi and Low” Gallery Opening
All too often do gallery openings entail a slew of viewers who walk in, walk out, and leave with an experience that more or less engaged them. However, at Gallery1526 art is perceived in a whole different light. Encyclomedia’s gallery space strives to give its participants an experience they will never forget. The night of January 21st, 2012 was taken over by musicians, masterpieces, and merely clothed models. With so many stimuli perverting the senses viewers were left to wonder where they were…
Welcome to the “Hi and Low” gallery opening.
Assembled by the lovely Melanie B. Pierce, the gallery showcased many of Atlanta’s talents on its opening night. Artists, models, musicians, and fans gathered for an eventful evening of aesthetics and appreciation.
A vintage installation piece greeted visitors upon their arrival with its mysterious presence. Designed by Tina McNeeley, the piece evoked thoughts of inquiry and wonder. Much of Tina’s work involves stirring up old sentiments of grandma’s house, reminiscing of past memories, and creating narratives. Objects that once had meaning in a person’s life are reincarnated through her hands to serve a new and imaginative purpose.
Vibrant paintings with cute façades attract observers upon their initial view. However, another look reveals a much more morbid and awkward juxtaposition. A self-mutilating squid, a drowning giraffe, and a drunken elephant are just a few manifestations that resonate through the mind of Joe Havasy.
Brent Walker’s photography takes his viewers back to another era of beauty and desire with his finely honed craft. Pin-up girls and their boudoirs line the halls with their glowing presence while prints full of self-exploration and experimentation garnish the walls for those who pass by.
Craig Henderson’s paintings of Moonbillys and suicidal robots can be found tucked away intimately throughout the halls while making way to the sounds of Wet Rainbow and LAZERWULF.
The bands of the night definitely brought a unique aura of energy to the show. Wet Rainbow opened the night with cranking melodies and chords. LAZERWULF and fans donned on black face paint and rocked the house as metal vibrations streamed through the air.
Summing up the night was Stephanie Anderson and her Neon Armour crew. Entertaining the crowd all night with their marvelous body paintings, artists collaborated their efforts with beautiful models that graced the crowd with their radiating presence and patient demeanor. The models graciously sat through hours of painting as the artists made their work come into full bloom. Landscapes of beach getaways and space odysseys made their way onto the live canvases. A koi fish and a giant wolf head adorned the torsos. Glitter and loads of paint covered all aspects of the body. The final products were a part of an irreplaceable experience that will never be seen on their former mediums again.
